Migration from Oracle to SQL Server

With Windchill 9.1, PTC will release a documented and supported Oracle-to-SQLServer migration process that is built around Microsoft's SQL Server Migration Assistant (SSMA). SSMA can be downloaded at SQL Server Migration Assistant for Oracle (SSMA for Oracle). It is advised to read the following whitepaper to help prepare for a migration Guide to Migrating from Oracle to SQL Server 2005 . Always remember that migration should be done on a test database first, with a clean database backup somewhere that you can use to restart. It is an iterative process and you need to be prepared to script each step and then reset if needed.

PTC and Microsoft will work jointly on resolving any issues, if any, that might arise during the migration process. You can email me at sharonbj@microsoft.com with any issues that arise where it is not clear as to the recommendation actions based on the SSMA tool and the whitepaper. You can also email Michael Hayek (mhayek@ptc.com) for more details on what will be available with Windchill 9.1.
