“Had a great time – wished you were here.” – PTC/USER World Event 2006, June 4-7, Lake Grapevine, Texas

Taking place over several days, the 17th annual PTC/USER World Event broke several records with 1,945 attendees including representatives from 872 companies from 29 countries in addition to the 94 technology exhibitors. A total of 52 hours of hands-on training on Arbortext, Pro/ENGINEER and Winchill took place, an increase of 300% over last year’s training hours.

I had the opportunity to give two Best Practice Sessions (BPS) Wednesday morning. Best Practice Sessions provide you with practical advice on using PTC software. You get a chance to learn best practices directly from the experts and get ideas on how to optimize your use of the product. Many of the sessions feature live demonstrations to illustrate techniques.

The two Best Practice Sessions (BPS) that I gave are:

Performance Best Practices for Windchill and Pro/INTRALINK 8.0 Pro/ENGINEER Data Management

This session was targeted at both those new to the Windchill technology platform of Pro/INTRALINK 8.0 as well as those using Windchill PDMLink or ProjectLink. I provided an introduction to Windchill architecture, presented the factors affecting system performance, and what performance best practices you can implement and follow for optimal Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire productivity for product development

Applied Best Practices for Distributed Product Development using Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 and Windchill 8.0

This session was focused on how to productively exchange and efficiently collaborate developing products with PTC’s PDS using Windchill PDMLink, ProjectLink and the newly released Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0. I covered how to use the collaboration capabilities of an integral Windchill PDMLink and ProjectLink system for securely sharing design information with global design partners and managing design changes. I even showed a number of pre-recorded movies of the key integral operations: Share, PDM Checkout, Send to PDM, and Refresh Project. I showed how to use the new Pro/ENGINEER Wildfire 3.0 portable workspace and Windchill 8.0 work offline capabilities to overcome the challenges of distributed and “mobile” product development. And lastly, I gave a brief overview of the Infrastructure Requirements for Distributed Product Development and best practices for global collaboration.
